The townsfolk decide to ignore his threat and arrange a dance, the first Valentine's Day party in 20 years, but they soon discover that this is not a good idea. When a hulking miner (think Ed Wood meets Gorton's fisherman) begins stalking and killing the revelers, things get really ugly. MBV's debut album Isn't Anything, released in 1988, had a birthday-party-and-Cramps hybrid of punk, rockabilly and garage, but their 1991 release Loveless leaned more towards full-tilt noise pop. The band (Kevin Shields, Bilinda Butcher, Debbie Googe and Colm O Ciosoig) were the architects of early '90s shoegazing and they laid down the foundation for the genre with this landmark. Its two-year gestation was legendary, as Shields labored over the songs with a legendary sonic fixation and exasperated his paymasters at Creation Records in the process. Photo
