There's a deranged killer at work in the little town of Valentine Bluffs, and anyone who celebrates on this most romantic of holidays is fair game for him. The townsfolk decide to ignore his threat and arrange a dance, the first Valentine's Day party in 20 years, but they soon discover that this is not a good idea. When a hulking miner (think Ed Wood meets Gorton's fisherman) begins stalking and killing the revelers, things get really ugly.

MBV's debut album Isn't Anything, released in 1988, had a birthday-party-and-Cramps hybrid of punk, rockabilly and garage, but their 1991 release Loveless leaned more towards full-tilt noise pop. The band (Kevin Shields, Bilinda Butcher, Debbie Googe and Colm O Ciosoig) were the architects of early '90s shoegazing and they laid down the foundation for the genre with this landmark. Its two-year gestation was legendary, as Shields labored over the songs with a legendary sonic fixation and exasperated his paymasters at Creation Records in the process.
